GUIDE:  Preparing Curtains Before Hanging

  • by

Use the side where the strings come out (the “pocket” or opening).

1. Identify the correct side:

2. Tie off the opposite end:

On the other side of the curtain tape, tie the ends of the strings into a secure knot.

This ensures the strings don’t pull through when gathering.

3. Start gathering:

One person should pull the strings from the open side.

The second person should hold the opposite end of the curtain (where the strings are tied) to provide resistance.

Pull gently and evenly to draw the fabric into neat pleats.

4. Adjust the fullness:

Continue pulling until the width matches your curtain track/pole.

Make sure the pleats are even from top to bottom.

5. Tie the strings:

Once finished, tie the gathered strings into a knot, but do not cut them.

Tuck the tied strings into the sewn-in pocket so they stay hidden.

B. Insert Curtain Hooks (Choosing the Correct Hook Line)

Many curtain tapes have multiple rows of pockets. These rows control the final hanging height.

How to choose the correct line:

  1. Middle line = standard height (maximum flexibility)
  2. Top line (higher pockets) = curtains will hang lower toward the floor
  3. Bottom line (lower pockets) = curtains will hang higher off the floor

Hold the curtain hook with the pointed end facing upward. Insert the pointed end behind one of the tape pockets (standard budget tapes typically have three draw strings forming pockets, while Ebi & Co Interiors uses a higher-quality pocket tape for improved support and durability).

Slide the hook upward through the pocket until the curved hook section reaches the top edge of the tape.

Rotate the hook so that the pointed end now faces downward and the curved hook remains at the top.

Insert hooks at consistent intervals:
approximately every 5 to 7 pockets — to ensure an even, neat, and uniform drape across the curtain.

3. If you want the curtain lower → move hooks to the upper row of tape pockets.

4. If you want it shorter/higher → move hooks to the lower row.

Hanging Up of your curtains

1. The last stage.

Clip your hooks into the runners in your rail, making sure that each hook has a runner to go into.

If you have more runners in your rail, you can skip the unnecessary runners one at a time

to make sure that your curtain hangs uniformly.
